Winemakers Choice have a 25% off January sale on 9 wines with some interesting varieties worth a try.
We like the De Bortoli Gulf Station Shiraz Viognier 2006. It scored 94 points in James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2009 and has had good reviews from Wine Spectator and Gary Walsh from Inside Out.
Shiraz Viognier is an interesting blend of a red and white grape. The viognier livens up the shiraz and increases the aroma notes adding floral and apricot tones.
The De Bortoli Gulf Station Shiraz Viognier 2006 is an excellent example of this exciting blend. It’s very scented with floral overtones with the shiraz peppery, spicy notes. It’s vibrant and medium bodied with plum flavours.
