Heathcote Wine Region

Heathcote in central Victoria is famous for producing exceptional quality Shiraz wine. The recognition is worldwide and winemakers in the area have achieved international success with their wines. The high quality of the shiraz produced in the Heathcote region is partly down to the ideal terroir. This is the combination of soil, sun, rain and micro climates producing unique conditions in an area. Heathcote has a reliable, dry, mild climate and has had a succession of drought years producing a low yield but superb quality shiraz.
The region is famous for the ancient Cambrian soil on the slopes of the Mt Camel range. This red soil is known as the Heathcote Greenstone Belt and it gives the Heathcote shiraz its unique characteristics.
This unique character is a wine that is unusually deep in colour and is complex, rich and velvety. Flavours are dark cherry, plum and black pepper spice. Fine tannins give texture and length. Heathcote shiraz ages superbly.
