PENFOLDS BIN 389 CABERNET SHIRAZ 2005
"(South Australia) 'I was up for buying a few bottles of this the minute it hit my chops....Oh lovely with it’s mix of blackcurrant, plum and blueberry fruit, licorice, bay leaf, cocoa and dusty vanilla oak. On the palate a wine of immediate impact and strength, striding through the mouth with purpose and grace; and it’s that combination of balance, power and structure that clearly sets it apart from most of its contemporaries. It has a wide spread of powder fine tannin, clean acid to balance and superb length of flavour. A great (and thoroughly Australian) wine.' 96/100 Gary Walsh, Winorama 'The one everyone always wants to know about though - is of course Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2005 ($58). No one in their right mind can call this wine disappointing. Indeed I reckon it's the best since the 1996. It's a wine of immense structured power. Sure there are rich flavours of plums, blackcurrant, smoky vanillin and tobacco, but really it's a wine about tannin and balance and grunt. I don't think I could enjoy drinking this right now (well, I could, but only on masochistic nights) but I know that it will cellar like a dream. A classic in the making. Drink: 2014-2026 96 points. Campbell Mattinson"
