Cheap Wine

Cheap wine doesn’t have to mean awful wine. There are some very enjoyable, easy to drink wines that are at the bottom of the price range. With the discounts that you can get by buying wine online you can find some great wines often for under $10 per bottle.

So how do you find cheap wines that are any good?

Let us do the work for you! There are many reasons why reasonable quality wine is offered at bargain basement prices but great offers come and go and different merchants get access to fantastic deals at different times. We scour the online wine offers and bring together a monthly update of what we consider to be the best cheap wine available at any one time.

Here’s our pick for December 2008:

WineMarket are offering substantial discounts on brand name wines with a great selection in the under $10 range. They also have a flat delivery rate of $5 nationwide. Some of the great buys in the cheap wine section this month include Kangaroo Ridge Sauvignon Blanc 2008 for $4.99. This was a cancelled export wine order and the price savings are huge - normal retail price is $12.99 a bottle. Another great buy is the Jacobs Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV for $9.99. This is a multi award winning sparkling wine reduced from $14.49 a bottle. Great for New Year’s eve parties!

Jacks Wine have a fantastic selection of wines for under $10 with the cheapest of these being under $4 a bottle. Many of these wines are below half price.

We like the Wombat Hill Shiraz at $69 a case. It’s a full bodied shiraz with great flavour and depth so at under $6 a bottle it’s a superb wine for every day drinking.

Our favourite in cheap white wines is the Gossips Chardonnay. It’s under $5 a bottle ($55 a case) and a great wine for this price.

WineMakers Choice excel at mixed cases of cheap, quality wines. The best seller is the Super 12 pack working out at just over $8 a bottle. You can opt for all reds, all whites or a mix. All the wines are good quality brand name wines and it’s so easy to let someone else put together a great mix!

There are some bargain cleanskin wines around. It can be a bit of pot luck but every now and again great quality wines get sold as cleanskins at drastically reduced prices. We’ve put together a list of the best cleanskins around.

Finally, James Halliday recently released his top 100 wine list for 2008 so we’ve selected a handful of the cheaper wines from the Halliday list that you can buy online.
